Communication Coaching in Staten Island, NY
with Kelly Gorsky, LMHC, CCP, CAMS-I
When conversations go in circles, and nothing changes, something has to give.
You’re speaking, but your message is not being acknowledged.
You’re speaking, but not feeling heard.
Communication isn’t just about making your point. It’s about whether your point is being received.
This Isn’t About Talking More. It’s About Talking Smarter.
In Marriage Counseling, you will acquire skills to speak and be heard.
In Couples Counseling, you will gain skills when and how to speak—so that you’re aware when your message is being heard and when you are tuned out.
Often, couples are so hurt or angry that they don’t notice their words are falling on deaf ears, even when their partner says, “I understand.” That phrase doesn’t mean your message has been received. It doesn’t mean anything has shifted.
There are tools that you can attain insight into recognizing when your partner is listening, retaining your point, and possibly open to change. With my therapeutic services, you will be able to obtain the Communication skills you are craving to practice. However, you will need to be open to listening, learning and making changes.
What Communication Work Looks Like in My Office
We will not waste time. My sessions are practical, clear and results-driven. You will acquire constructive feedback and coping tools that are effective from the first session.
Here’s what we focus on:
- How to speak in a way that keeps your partner open and listening
- What to look for to know your message is being retained
- How to observe tone, body language and unspoken cues
- What to do when your partner shuts down or disengages
- How to directly and assertively communicate your thoughts and feelings
It’s not about “winning” the argument. It’s about knowing you’ve been heard—and actually hearing the person you are in a relationship with.
What I Don’t Do
I don’t take sides, and I won’t let one person dominate the session unless its absolutely necessary. I offer insight into how emotions do not need to derail the process/outcomes
If you’re looking for a therapist to nod and to just listen, I’m not the right therapist for you. If you prefer a structured, focused path to change how you communicate, that is what I offer in my counseling/coaching services.
Why Work With Me
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State with over 20 years of experience helping couples stop communication breakdown before it becomes the end of the relationship.
I earned my graduate degree in Applied Psychology from NYU in 2003. I became a Certified Life Coach in 2009, a Certified Anger Management Specialist in 2013, and a Divorce Mediator in 2018. I’ve worked with couples navigating emotional conflict, trauma, chronic miscommunication, and high-conflict dynamics.
This isn’t theoretical. This is tactical, tested, and grounded in clinical work with real couples who intend to obtain real change.
What to Expect When You Start
- Clear structure: We set a purpose and stay focused.
- Real tools: You’ll leave with techniques you can use immediately.
- Feedback that matters: You’ll know what’s working and what isn’t.
Every couple has a different rhythm and pattern. I tailor the sessions to your dynamic, but I always keep the work centered on outcomes. Less frustration. Fewer and more productive and healthy arguments. More connection and verbal and emotional intimacy.
If You’re Ready to Be Heard
If you’re stuck in the same conversational patterns without change, it’s time to do this differently.
